Meet Rufus. Catcher, cooker and eater of Mr Prawn. He's ever so proud. We've just spent the last two weeks in a wooden blue cottage in the New Forest, and all he's wanted to do is catch, kill and cook fish. It's an obsession. But one we're (well, the husband) is fuelling, in the hope that one day we'll get some food out of it. This time it was just poor old Mr Prawn - caught on a day trip to the Isle of Wight, but tomorrow? Maybe a mackerel. Or pollock.
In fact, catching a prawn wasn't the most exciting thing that happened in the Isle of Wight. Oh no. The most exciting thing was that I was walking along the beach, heading for the cafe when a lady approached me. And guess what she said? She said; "I just had to tell you, I love your blog. My children are much older now but I still make all your recipes." And what did I say. Um, nothing. I don't think. I can't remember. I was too stunned! I have to say, in a very uncool way, it was AMAZING to meet a reader out of the blue like that. Sometimes blogging can feel a bit like chucking stuff into the ether, but that really made it worthwhile. So thank you lady in a hat on Colwell Bay.
